This week I have been successful in finding articles about the different types of radiology and getting a grasp on each one. Some of the subcategories include nuclear radiology, neuroradiology, cardiovascular radiology, sonography, and musculoskeletal radiology. I have learned that neuroradiology is focused on the imaging of the brain, head, neck, and spine; sonographers scan images using a different type of technology called an ultrasound; nuclear radiology focuses on the fact that the radiation drug is inside your body, and nanoparticle technology helps with identifying cancers, tumors, and even bone regulation. With the speed of advancements in radiology, it is ideal to choose within the subspecialties because of how much imaging has become a more complex part of medicine. After learning about these subtypes I have been questioning what I would like to specifically study for the year and am having trouble deciding. I would still like to learn more about neuroradiology and musculoskeletal radiology by finding more detailed peer-reviewed articles. I would also like to learn more about the systems of the body which from there figure out how radiation affects skin or what the side effects could be and how it has changed from development throughout the years.
